Disputes regarding officiating decisions have emerged within Italian Serie A football. Initial concerns centered on referee Giuseppe Collu, whose appointment to the Lazio vs Monza match drew scrutiny due to past controversial decisions, including a refusal to award a Lazio penalty following a VAR review during the 2025-26 season.

Subsequent debates expanded to include multiple fixtures. In a match between Atalanta and Frosinone, experts criticized a penalty awarded to Atalanta for a handball, noting the player’s movement appeared to be an attempt to regain balance. Additionally, a disputed incident in the Lazio-Parma match involving Frattesi prompted commentary from former officials regarding whether VAR should have intervened in the presence of contact.
