The twelve clubs of the Italian women’s Serie A football league have confirmed they will continue the experimental use of Football Video Support (FVS) for the 2026-2027 season. This technology is intended to assist referees in competitions that do not utilize VAR by allowing them to review specific incidents, such as goal scoring, penalty decisions, or direct red cards, via a pitchside monitor.

A new update for the upcoming season includes the installation of additional cameras near the penalty areas, specifically the “16-meter” lines, to improve imagery for officiating reviews. League president Federica Cappelletti stated that the introduction of FVS has already helped to “decrease in refereeing errors and player protests,” thereby improving the quality of the game.
