During the 6th National Congress of Tourism Municipalities held in the O’Higgins region, the National Tourism Service (Sernatur) issued several distinctions to municipal leaders and local governments for excellence in tourism management.

Initial recognitions included awards for individual managers, such as Cristina Villanueva of Pica, named Best Tourism Manager for the Tarapacá Region, and David Venegas Torres of Cobquecura, named Best Municipal Tourism Coordinator in Chile.

Following these individual honors, the municipality of Ovalle received the distinction of ‘Municipalidad Turística’ for the first time. Sernatur officials noted that tourism serves as a vital economic driver, specifically citing the Coquimbo region as a generator of between 27,000 and 31,000 direct jobs.
