Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail have caused significant disruption across the Alpine regions of Italy and Austria.

In South Tyrol, Italy, extreme rainfall and thunderstorms led to widespread flooding in the Gsies and Passeier valleys. The weather caused streams to overflow with debris, mud, and rocks, damaging infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and fields. In some areas, rainfall reached approximately 53 liters per square meter within 30 minutes. While property damage and power outages were reported, no injuries occurred.

Subsequent severe weather impacted broader Alpine areas, including parts of Austria and the Dolomites. In Wagrain, Salzburg, hailstorms produced ice layers between 10 and 20 centimeters thick, necessitating the use of snowplows to clear roads. In Italy, storm cells moved through the Eisack Valley and Pustertal, bringing heavy rain and hail. Authorities have warned of ongoing risks regarding flash flooding, landslides, and rockfalls.

Recent reports indicate continued disruption. In Wagrain, massive hail deposits up to 20 centimeters thick covered streets and landscapes, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds that caused localized flooding and landslides. In South Tyrol, a supercell caused intense rainfall and hail measuring three to five centimeters, with emergency services responding to flooded homes, garages, and basements in Brixen and surrounding areas. 

Additionally, two separate earthquakes were recorded in Austria within nine minutes of each other. The first, a magnitude 2.5 tremor, occurred near Ebreichsdorf in Lower Austria, followed by a magnitude 2.6 earthquake between Innsbruck and Wattens in Tyrol. No structural damage or injuries were reported from these seismic events.
