A legal and labor dispute has emerged following the planned 20.35 billion euro sale of telecommunications operator SFR to a consortium including Bouygues Telecom, Iliad (Free), and Orange.

In late October, the Paris Judicial Court rejected a request by SFR’s Social and Economic Committee (CSE) to suspend the sale's information-consultation process. The union had argued that the consultation was insufficient due to a lack of financial documentation regarding the social impact of the deal. The court ruled that the consultation phase had already concluded in early October and noted that suspending the sale could increase psychosocial risks for employees by prolonging uncertainty.

In response to the ruling, the Unsa-CFDT-CFTC inter-union group described the decision as “shameful” and called for a strike on November 3 involving employees from SFR, SFR Distribution, and Altice Technical Services. Unions intend to appeal the decision as workers continue to seek guarantees regarding employment security.
