Sources: 7. Developments: 2. South Korean beach volleyball player Shin Ji-eun, alongside partner Kim Jeong-ah, has achieved significant success at the Nagoya Asian Games. Following an initial Group D preliminary victory against a Malaysian pair, the duo secured advancement to the knockout stage. This achievement marks the first time a South Korean women’s beach volleyball team has reached the knockout tournament in 12 years. Shin’s career has been characterized by financial and social obstacles. Due to a lack of professional team structures and corporate sponsorship in South Korea, she previously relied on various part-time jobs, such as working in fast-food restaurants and cafes, to fund her training and international travel. Additionally, she has addressed online criticism regarding her competition attire, maintaining that such uniforms are a “long-standing tradition” and necessary for performance and heat management. While Shin had previously considered retirement following the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, her recent media visibility and social media popularity have helped her secure corporate sponsorship, improving her training and travel conditions. The team is scheduled to compete in the round of 16 against a top-tier Chinese pair. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Shin Ji-Eun advances to Asian Games beach volleyball knockout stage South Korean beach volleyball player Shin Ji-Eun has reached the Asian Games knockout stage, overcoming years of financial hardship and social criticism to secure a historic win for her country. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/shin-ji-eun-advances-to-asian-games-beach-volleyball-knockout-stage ### 2026-09-24: Shin Ji-eun secures first Asian Games victory in beach volleyball South Korean beach volleyball player Shin Ji-eun achieved her first Asian Games victory at the Nagoya games, overcoming past financial hardships and online harassment to secure a 2-1 win against Malaysia. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/shin-ji-eun-secures-first-asian-games-victory-in-beach-volleyball --- Cite as: Shin Ji-eun Asian Games beach volleyball performance.
