The Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines are scheduled to launch ‘Supreme Class’ on October 1, 2026. This new luxury service aims to exceed current Green Car standards by reintroducing private cabin seating for the first time in 23 years.

The service will feature two cabin types: a two-person cabin in Car 7, containing a single seat and a facing sofa, and a single-occupancy cabin in Car 10. These cabins will include electronic locks, 5G-compatible Wi-Fi supported by transparent glass antennas, and in-room tablets to manage lighting, temperature, and audio. Amenities such as seat heaters, lumbar support, and directional sound technology are also planned.

While single-occupancy cabins in Car 10 will be fixed in a rear-facing orientation for trains traveling away from Tokyo, a semi-private option with reversible seats is expected to be introduced in fiscal year 2027.
