Shuichi Takizawa, a member of the comedy duo Machineguns who performs as a ‘garbage cleaning comedian,’ has used social media to provide public guidance on proper waste management in Japan.

In late September, Takizawa addressed the issue of umbrella disposal during rainy seasons. He noted that disposal rules vary by municipality—with some classifying umbrellas as non-burnable waste or requiring specific ‘metal days’—and urged citizens to consult local government pamphlets rather than leaving umbrellas at convenience stores.

In October, Takizawa shifted focus to the disposal of disposable hand warmers. He explained that while many regions classify them as non-burnable waste due to iron content, some allow them to be treated as burnable waste. He also highlighted recycling potential, noting that hand warmers can be repurposed into liquid fertilizer or used in water purification and soil improvement processes.
