In Palermo, the upcoming Mobility Expo by SM, scheduled for October 23–25 in Piazza Castelnuovo, will focus on automotive innovation, road safety, and sustainable mobility. Organized by Sicilia Motori with municipal patronage, the event will feature ten automotive brands, including three unreleased models making their Sicilian debut. The exhibition will include a 24-hour outdoor display covering environment, history, and technology, alongside a ‘Heritage Red Carpet’ showcasing classic cars from the 1950s. Academic involvement from the Universities of Palermo, Messina, and Catania will highlight engineering projects such as the Apex single-seater and the Zancle E-Drive. Additionally, the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) will participate to address road safety, and a roundtable discussion is planned for October 23 regarding smart cities and the future of mobility. Concurrently, the Sicilian Regional Government is working to diversify tourism through the TTG Travel Experience, targeting cycle tourism, gastronomy, and archaeological sites to reduce seasonal peaks. In Catania, efforts to bolster the regional economy include discussions led by UniCredit President Pier Carlo Padoan regarding the importance of leveraging human capital and technological innovation to attract investment. Additionally, the inauguration of a renovated Fastweb + Vodafone headquarters in Catania aims to establish the city as a hub for digital transformation and technological development. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-15: Palermo to host Mobility Expo by SM in Piazza Castelnuovo The Mobility Expo by SM will be held in Palermo from October 23-25, featuring automotive brands, classic cars, and discussions on the future of mobility and road safety. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/palermo-to-host-mobility-expo-by-sm-in-piazza-castelnuovo ### 2026-10-14: Sicily focuses on economic growth and technological innovation Economic leaders and tech companies are focusing on Catania, Sicily, through UniCredit's development forum and Fastweb + Vodafone's renovated innovation hub. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sicily-focuses-on-economic-growth-and-technological-innovation ### 2026-10-11: Sicily hosts automotive expo and tourism promotion events Palermo hosts the Mobility Expo in October to showcase automotive innovation, while the Sicilian government promotes new tourism strategies at the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sicily-hosts-automotive-expo-and-tourism-promotion-events --- Cite as: Sicily economic and technological development.
