In late July, regional water officials and municipal representatives met to plan for the summer peak, agreeing to request an additional 30 L/s of water from Siciliacque on top of an existing 110 L/s allocation. The aim was to balance demand across municipalities, curb waste and maintain service during the highest consumption weeks.

In August, the Sicilian regional government, under President Renato Schifani, approved the reallocation of €7.2 million from the Development and Cohesion Plan to modernize the water-supply network in the Etna Valley industrial zone. This funding specifically targets the upgrade of the Pantano d’Arci well field in the Catania industrial area. The project is a prerequisite for the development of the ‘Campus Sic’ silicon-carbide semiconductor campus, a major STMicroelectronics project described as the first integrated plant of its kind in Europe. The regional government is co-financing this with €300 million from EU funds, with the public company Sidra named as the implementation partner. Works are expected to last approximately ten months following the contract award.

To address immediate structural issues, the region allocated €787,500 to purchase seven new water tankers for the province of Agrigento. Implemented by Civil Protection Chief Salvo Cocina and managed by the local provider Aica, this measure aims to ensure drinking water access for residents in areas lacking efficient networks and to reduce reliance on private transporters. These new vehicles join approximately ten others already in use by municipalities, serving as a priority intervention to ensure legality, continuity, and efficiency in water distribution for the province.
