In late September, seventy newly recruited Freetown City Council Metropolitan Police officers completed a six-week intensive program at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA). The curriculum emphasized professionalism, human rights, discipline, and physical endurance. During the graduation, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr instructed officers to treat their uniforms as “symbols of public service” and stressed the importance of integrity. By early October, training efforts expanded to include maritime and inter-agency cooperation. Seventy personnel from the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority completed a two-week course at SILEA focused on threat identification and emergency response to meet international security standards. Additionally, the Sierra Leone Police provided training to immigration officers in Freetown regarding the use of communication handsets to improve field coordination. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Sierra Leone security agencies conduct specialized training programs Sierra Leone security agencies have conducted specialized training for port personnel and immigration officers to improve national security, communication, and inter-agency coordination. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sierra-leone-security-agencies-conduct-specialized-training-programs ### 2026-09-30: Freetown Metropolitan Police officers complete six-week training Seventy Freetown Metropolitan Police officers have graduated from a six-week intensive training programme at the SILEA academy in Sierra Leone, focusing on discipline and human rights. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/freetown-metropolitan-police-officers-complete-six-week-training --- Cite as: Sierra Leone security agency training initiatives.
