The locomotive engine of the 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express derailed on Thursday morning in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of Assam, specifically between the Badarpur and Sukritipur stations. 

No casualties or injuries were reported, and all passengers remained safe. The rear portion of the train, containing the passenger coaches, was pushed back to Badarpur. The incident caused significant disruptions to the railway corridor connecting the Barak Valley to the rest of the state, leading to the cancellation of the Guwahati-Silchar Express and the regulation or detention of several other services, such as the Sealdah-Silchar Express and Agartala-Sealdah Express.

Northeast Frontier Railway officials initiated restoration and repair work to clear the section. Officials expected to complete repairs by Thursday evening.
