Veteran singer Sim Soo-bong faced public backlash following controversial remarks made toward junior singer Kim Da-hyun during the 10th Jinan Plateau Trot Festival. During her performance, Sim criticized the preceding singer, suggesting the performer lacked an understanding of music and life, and requested that such performers not be scheduled before her.

Sim issued an official apology through her agency, describing the incident as a “slip of the tongue” and expressing regret for the harm caused to the 17-year-old artist. Kim Da-hyun addressed the situation on social media, noting that Sim had reached out personally to offer encouragement and apologies. Reports resurfaced regarding Sim’s struggle with misophonia, a condition involving intense reactions to specific sounds, which she has previously managed by wearing earplugs.

During a performance at the 2026 Goseong Dinosaur World Expo, Kim Da-hyun addressed the controversy again. She expressed gratitude for the support received and stated her intention to study harder to become a great singer, noting that the sudden circumstances had prevented her from posting certain holiday videos.

Meanwhile, actor Yoo Tung offered a harsh critique of Sim, suggesting her public outbursts could negatively impact her career longevity, characterizing the incident as a “self-inflicted blow” to her professional standing and attributing her behavior to age-related health concerns.

Following the controversy, Sim made her first television appearance on the EBS program ‘Space Empathy’ to mark her 48th debut anniversary. During the broadcast, she performed several hits and reflected on her musical philosophy, stating that her music is centered on ‘empathy and comfort’ for those facing hardships. She remains scheduled to hold her solo concert, ‘The Sim Soo-bong Show,’ in Wonju on the 31st.
