Following the grace period, the number of licensed and microchipped cats in the country rose to over 111,000, up from approximately 66,000 earlier in the year. Under the current regulations, keeping an unlicensed cat is an offense under the Animals and Birds Act, carrying potential fines of up to S$5,000. The framework also imposes limits on pet ownership based on housing type: residents in HDB flats are permitted up to two cats, while those in private residences may keep up to three.
