The status of the Skûlenboarch bridge remains uncertain as Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Vincent Karremans awaits a national assessment of major ministry projects before making a final decision. 

The bridge has faced weight restrictions since a collision in 2024, forcing heavy traffic to use detours. While Rijkswaterstaat has considered several options—including complete removal, replacement, conversion for pedestrians and cyclists, or the installation of an aqueduct—a feasibility study by the province of Fryslân regarding an aqueduct was deemed not viable. 

The bridge is part of the Lemmer-Delfzijl main waterway program, which seeks to replace eight bridges to facilitate larger vessels. Although four other bridges in Fryslân are currently in the planning phase, the specific future for Skûlenboarch has not yet been determined.
