Slovak national football teams have concluded recent qualification attempts with mixed outcomes.

The men’s under-21 team failed to qualify for the 2027 European Championship. Despite a 2-1 victory over Andorra featuring two goals from Mario Sauer, the result was insufficient. Because Ireland defeated England, the Irish side secured the advancement instead. Coach Jaroslav Kentoš and Sauer noted that while the qualification outcome was a “disappointment,” the performance offered “valuable experience for future cycles.”

The Slovak women’s national team continues preparations for their two-legged 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off against Ukraine. Due to security concerns in Ukraine, both matches will be hosted in Slovakia, with the first leg scheduled for October 9 in Prešov and the second for October 13 in Košice. Coach Peter Kopúň previously indicated the team intends to leverage their home-field advantage to counter Ukraine’s higher ranking.
