In Slovakia, the opposition movement Progresívne Slovensko (PS) has called for the resignation of Tibor Gašpar, the Deputy Speaker of the National Council. Gašpar, a member of Smer-SD, is facing indictment in the ‘Očistec’ corruption case.

PS intends to initiate a parliamentary vote to remove Gašpar from his position in September. The party has also proposed a constitutional amendment to prevent members of parliament indicted for corruption or crimes committed by public officials from serving as Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the National Council. MP Zuzana Mesterová argued it is unacceptable for an individual facing allegations of manipulating judicial decisions to represent a high state institution.
