President Peter Pellegrini is set to attend the Arraiolos Group summit in Slovenia to discuss the future of the European Union, focusing on security, prosperity, and multilateralism. Domestically, the government is navigating budget reforms. Minister Erik Tomáš indicated the government would submit a balanced budget if mandated by the Constitutional Court, though he noted a deficit budget is likely necessary to maintain social benefits. This has drawn criticism from opposition figures like Viliam Karas, who described the proposal as a “plan of stagnation and lack of vision.” In the sporting sector, Prime Minister Robert Fico met with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and Slovak Football Association (SFZ) President Ján Kováčik. The meeting follows reports of a significant financial crisis within the SFZ, which faces debts of nearly 24 million euros and legal issues involving mobile phone guarantees valued at approximately 25 million euros. Discussions may center on potential funding or loans from UEFA to prevent a collapse of the association. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-10: Slovak PM Fico meets UEFA President amid football association debt crisis Prime Minister Robert Fico met with UEFA and SFZ leaders amid reports that the Slovak Football Association faces nearly 24 million euros in debt and potential financial collapse. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/slovak-pm-fico-meets-uefa-president-amid-football-association-debt-crisis ### 2026-10-09: Slovakia: Political leaders manage EU summit, UEFA meeting, and budget reforms Slovak leaders are managing diverse priorities, including attending the Arraiolos summit in Slovenia, discussing football infrastructure with UEFA, and navigating budget reforms and constitutional requirements. 12 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/robert-fico-meets-with-uefa-president-aleksander-eferin --- Cite as: Slovak political and financial management.
