The Slovenian government has amended the Decree on Mandatory Health Insurance service programs for 2026 to improve healthcare accessibility. The expansion focuses on primary care services, including family medicine, women’s clinics, physiotherapy, and child psychiatry, while also increasing funding for elderly care facilities across 468 locations.

Diagnostic capacities are being increased, specifically through expanded MRI services at the Health Center Maribor and increased PET-CT scan capacity at the Ljubljana Oncology Institute. To address waiting lists, the government is implementing a payment model based on completed orthopedic procedures within the public health network. Health Minister Tadej Ostrc noted that these measures aim to direct resources to patient needs and reduce pressure on hospitals and emergency centers. Additionally, legislation is being drafted for a state fund to finance treatments for rare childhood diseases.
