In Novo mesto, the Narodni dom, a cultural monument of national importance, underwent a four-million-euro restoration. The project, which received approximately 2.9 million euros from EU funds, focused on structural stabilization, facade updates, and improving accessibility. The building will serve as a cultural hub and a seat for the University of Novo mesto, featuring a multipurpose hall and a museum collection dedicated to Olympian Leon Štukelj. In Škofja Loka, the Dijaški dom underwent a nearly six-million-euro modernization to upgrade student housing. Supported by 3.7 million euros in EU recovery and development funds, the project improved energy efficiency and provided 95 air-conditioned beds with private sanitary facilities. Additionally, a new elderly care facility, Dom Lilija in Moravče, was opened to provide permanent and temporary care spots, including specialized accommodations for residents with dementia. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: Slovenian cultural and educational buildings undergo major renovations Slovenia completes major renovations of the Narodni dom in Novo mesto and the Dijaški dom in Škofja Loka, utilizing significant European Union funding for cultural and educational infrastructure. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/slovenian-cultural-and-educational-buildings-undergo-major-renovations ### 2026-09-24: Cultural and social facilities reopen in Slovenia Slovenia sees the reopening of the historic Narodni dom in Novo mesto after a major renovation and the opening of the new Dom Lilija elderly care facility in Moravče. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cultural-and-social-facilities-reopen-in-slovenia --- Cite as: Slovenian cultural and educational infrastructure renovation.
