Municipalities in Slovenia are expanding their participatory budgeting programs due to high citizen interest. In Maribor, the city council is considering a plan to implement more projects selected through the participatory budget in 2026, with 412,000 euros allocated for investments such as urban renovations, bicycle stands, and recreational spaces. 

In Kranj, voting has commenced for the 2027–2028 cycle. Citizens are choosing from a record 160 proposals following a collection phase that received 334 initiatives. The municipality has allocated 1.25 million euros for these projects, distributing 50,000 euros to each local community for improvements in areas such as sports, traffic safety, and green spaces.
