The Planja fire that ignited on the steep terrain near Bovec in late July continued to dominate Slovenia’s fire season into early August. By 31 July more than 100 firefighters from eight regional brigades were battling a 12‑hectare blaze fed by underground hotspots, falling rocks and exposed roots. Three Air‑Tractor water‑bombers and a Slovene army helicopter had already dropped about 260,000 liters of water, while the Strmec‑Mangart road stayed closed and flight operations around Planja and Bohinj Lake remained restricted. Civil‑protection commander Srečko Šestan kept the national emergency plan in force and red fire‑danger warnings persisted across Primorska and central Slovenia amid a heat wave.

After three days of fighting, the fire was largely contained by 2 August. A total of 113 firefighters continued operations, and Prime Minister Janez Janša visited the site, praising the crews and noting that future drone use will complement, not replace, human effort. Subterranean hotspots still flare, keeping the road closure in place and a temporary ban on glider and kite activities near Bohinj Lake.

On 2 August the blaze remained stable and under control. Ninety‑nine firefighters from nine brigades, supported by 25 vehicles, kept watch as a military Cougar helicopter delivered roughly 162,000 liters of water over three days. Drone units monitored underground hotspots, and one firefighter suffered a wrist injury. The prime minister reiterated the role of unmanned aircraft in future operations. Road closures and flight restrictions persisted, with officials expecting the fire to continue until rain arrives.
