Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Card have expanded their digital alliance with SoftBank by integrating PayPay features into the SMBC and Vpass mobile applications. 

Initially, the integration allowed users to view PayPay balances and points directly within banking apps to facilitate centralized management of cashless payments. Additionally, PayPay enhanced its system to allow users to apply points and PayPay Money toward PayPay Card billing, including the ability to prepay future monthly statements.

Subsequent developments indicate that while current updates focus on balance visibility and seamless transitions for QR code payments, future plans include a ‘PayPay mode’ for Olive Flexible Pay. This intended feature would enable users to utilize prepaid PayPay balances for payments at Visa merchants globally.
