Following a landslide on May 1 near the Raykovski meadows, which blocked a 70-metre stretch of the Smolyan-Pamporovo road and interrupted gas supplies, Smolyan Mayor Nikolay Melemov lifted the declared disaster emergency on July 17. The emergency status was rescinded after a regional electricity distributor completed a second independent power line to secure the electricity supply for the Pamporovo ski complex. Despite the lifting of the emergency status, the landslide remains active. Experts from the Road Infrastructure Agency have identified the construction of a bridge as the primary option for restoring the road. Technical specialists are currently evaluating steel-concrete and metal structural designs. The project involves coordination between the Regional Road Administration in Smolyan, the Smolyan Municipality, the Institute for Roads and Bridges, and Geo-protection Pernik.
