In late September, a house fire in Guaxindiba, São Gonçalo, resulted in the deaths of two young sisters, aged 2 and 6. The blaze occurred in the early hours of September 30 while the three children were alone in the residence. Neighbors assisted in rescuing the children, though the home was completely destroyed.
