Early in September, the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SECTI) requested that parents and families participate more directly in school maintenance, such as cleaning and repair campaigns. This move drew criticism from those who argued it might use families as “free labor” to compensate for state budgetary deficiencies. By late September, the state government, under Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, expanded its social programs by launching the 2026 Unemployment Support for Wellbeing Social Development Program. This initiative aims to provide support to thousands of individuals who have lost formal employment. Simultaneously, state and federal authorities are coordinating to strengthen educational rights through scholarships and infrastructure improvements, including the Integral Plan for the Eastern Zone to expand high school and higher education access. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-30: Estado de México launches unemployment support and educational initiatives The State of Mexico has initiated its 2026 unemployment support program and is coordinating with federal authorities to expand educational scholarships and infrastructure for students. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/estado-de-mxico-launches-unemployment-support-and-educational-initiatives ### 2026-09-02: Estado de México calls for parental help with school maintenance The State of Mexico's education secretariat has called on parents to assist with school maintenance and cleaning, sparking debate over whether the state is shifting its budgetary responsibilities to families. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/estado-de-mxico-calls-for-parental-help-with-school-maintenance --- Cite as: Social and educational initiatives in Estado de México.
