An 83-year-old university professor, Andrei Atanasov of Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’, died following a violent assault at the Giulio Curie metro station in Sofia.

Investigations indicate the attack was motivated by a personal relationship between the victim and the suspect, a Greek national. Reports suggest the suspect stalked the professor for two days prior to the incident. Surveillance footage shows the assailant ambushing the professor before and during an elevator ride, using a blunt object during the beating.

The suspect, who attempted to conceal his identity with a medical mask, cap, and raised collar, fled the scene in a rental car and has since left the country. Authorities have launched an international manhunt to locate the individual.
