In late August 2026, Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini attempted to persuade Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat to return to the Andalusian club. Amrabat, then under contract with Fenerbahçe, was viewed as a way to bolster the defensive midfield following the club’s Champions League participation. However, the move faced financial hurdles as Betis needed to create space within its wage budget to compete with lucrative offers from the Gulf region.

By late September, the transfer did not materialize. Real Betis opted not to commit the necessary salary to finalize a permanent transfer. Following the termination of his contract with Fenerbahçe on August 29, Amrabat signed with Ajax as a free agent on a contract lasting until June 30, 2028.
