The Solomon Islands Agriculture Rural Transformation (SIART) Project, a World Bank-funded initiative, is implementing large-scale investments to transition subsistence farming into commercial agribusiness. The project focuses on two primary sectors: livestock and coconut production. In the livestock sector, the project has allocated millions of dollars to support Agribusiness Producer Organisations (ABPOs) in Malaita, Guadalcanal, and Makira/Ulawa provinces. These investments include establishing breeding facilities and distributing weaners to boost community pig farming. To support these operations, the project has conducted specialized training for piggery farmer groups in Malaita, covering topics such as animal health, biosecurity, housing construction, and farm business management. Parallel efforts in the coconut sector involve rehabilitating plantations and constructing driers across the same provinces. These initiatives aim to significantly increase copra production yields and generate increased annual revenue for participating households. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-06: Malaita piggery farmers complete agricultural training The SIART Project completed piggery training for five farmer groups in southern Malaita, part of a $6.9 million investment to boost agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods in the Solomon Islands. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/malaita-piggery-farmers-complete-agricultural-training ### 2026-09-28: SIART Project invests millions in Solomon Islands agribusiness The SIART Project is investing millions in the Solomon Islands to boost pig farming and coconut production across Malaita, Guadalcanal, and Makira/Ulawa provinces through agribusiness support. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/siart-project-invests-millions-in-solomon-islands-agribusiness --- Cite as: Solomon Islands SIART agribusiness development.
