Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a new ‘Midnight Black’ aesthetic variant of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition for the Japanese market. The console features a full black finish and maintains the existing PS5 Slim Digital Edition architecture.

The device is scheduled for release in Japan on November 19, 2026, with a retail price of 55,000 yen. Because it is a Digital Edition, it does not include a built-in disc drive, though a matching ‘Midnight Black’ disc drive will be available for 11,980 yen on the same day.

This model is a Japanese-language exclusive. Use is restricted to PlayStation accounts where the country/region is set to Japan and the system language is set to Japanese. Pre-orders for the console and the optional disc drive are set to begin on October 20, 2026.
