South Korean border regions in Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon State have secured record-breaking national budget allocations for 2027 to promote regional development and infrastructure improvement.

Gyeonggi Province secured 95.8 billion KRW, an increase of 31.6 billion KRW from the previous year. The funding is split between the Special Situation Area Development Project (77.8 billion KRW) to improve living infrastructure and the Border Area Development Support Project (18.1 billion KRW) to promote ecological and peace tourism. Specific projects include a public bus garage in Gapyeong and the development of the Jeongok-ri ruins in Yeoncheon.

Gangwon State secured 147.8 billion KRW for border area projects, representing a 47% increase from the previous year. This allocation includes 71.1 billion KRW for border area development support, such as theme-based hubs in Chuncheon, Yanggu, and Inje, and 76.7 billion KRW for special situation area development, including the Cheorwon World Geopark.
