The South Korean government has approved several major national highway and local road construction projects as part of the ‘6th National Highway and Local Road Construction Plan (2026–2030). In Gyeongsangnam-do, nine projects passed the feasibility stage, including new constructions like the Hansan Daecheop Bridge and the Oncheon Bridge, intended to alleviate congestion and improve emergency service access. In Chungcheongnam-do, eight projects totaling approximately 1.16 trillion won were approved to strengthen industrial competitiveness and regional development.

Following these approvals, the Chungcheong Metropolitan Union has proposed additional major road and rail projects to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The union is seeking the inclusion of three highway projects—the Boryeong–Daejeon–Boeun Expressway, the Chungcheong Second Outer Ring Expressway, and the Daejeon–Goesan–Jecheon Expressway—alongside seven rail projects designed to enhance connectivity between economic hubs.
