Recent judicial rulings in South Korea have addressed several high-profile cases involving the sexual and physical abuse of minors by authority figures.

In one case, the Suwon High Court upheld a six-year prison sentence for a church teacher who exploited a 17-year-old student. Although the defendant attempted to claim the relationship was consensual and later offered a 30 million won deposit, the court maintained the sentence due to the “egregious nature of the crimes” and the victim's refusal of the money.

In a separate ruling, the Changwon District Court Miryang Branch sentenced a man in his 40s to seven years in prison for the sexual abuse of his daughter and the physical and mental abuse of three other children. The court also imposed a 10-year employment restriction at institutions involving minors. 

Additionally, the Supreme Court of Korea finalized a four-year prison sentence for a 63-year-old elementary school principal. The principal was found to have sexually abused and harassed 10 students under the age of 13. While the initial trial resulted in an eight-year sentence, the term was reduced on appeal after the court determined some incidents were “calculated mechanically” based on frequency rather than being individually specified.
