South Korean research institutions are advancing the application of quantum technology within the biohealth and medical sectors. 

A collaborative team involving the University of Seoul, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, and Flonics has secured 2.5 billion KRW in government funding for a 2.5-year project. This initiative aims to use quantum algorithms to enhance the speed and accuracy of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for cardiovascular diseases, specifically targeting atrial fibrillation.

Concurrently, academic partnerships are expanding, such as the memorandum of understanding between Seoul National University of Science and Technology and KBIOHealth to collaborate on R&D and specialized training. Additionally, researchers at Sogang University have developed a new quantum circuit design method to resolve the ‘barren plateau’ problem in quantum artificial intelligence. This method has demonstrated higher accuracy than classical AI models in predicting the toxicity of over 10,000 chemical substances.
