South Korean technology companies are expanding their involvement in artificial intelligence (AI) through international strategic partnerships and domestic industrial applications.

In the United States, Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin participated in the launch of the ‘Foundry School’ in Washington, D.C., an initiative supported by the U.S. Department of State to develop talent in advanced industries and strengthen the AI supply chain. Shinsegae is also collaborating with Reflection AI on a project to establish an AI data center in South Korea, marking the first project under the U.S. Department of State’s ‘AI Export Program.’ Additionally, LG CNS has engaged with researchers from major U.S. universities to recruit talent for integrating AI and robotics.

Domestically, Samsung SDS is accelerating its AI transformation (AX) strategy. During its Real Summit 2026, CEO Lee Joon-hee emphasized that while AI changes tasks, AX fundamentally redesigns business processes. To drive these innovations, the company is employing a ‘client zero’ strategy, testing AX solutions within its own internal processes—such as development, procurement, and quality management—before deploying them to customers. Samsung SDS is deepening partnerships with global leaders, having become the first Korean company to join OpenAI’s ‘Daybreak Partner Program’ for AI-driven cybersecurity. The company is also expanding its partnership with Anthropic, with Claude models being utilized to identify new AX business opportunities and accelerate adoption across the Samsung ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Skyworldwide is expanding its ‘Ontovia’ industrial AI data platform into sectors like shipbuilding, semiconductors, and energy. The platform structures fragmented enterprise data into knowledge graphs and ontologies to help generative AI understand industrial context, thereby reducing hallucinations and improving decision-making.
