# South Pelion weather disaster relief efforts

Following severe weather in South Pelion on October 28, Greek officials initiated a recovery and compensation plan for affected residents. Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados announced that the compensation package would cover 100% of building damage and 70% of household equipment damage.

Administrative efforts focused on streamlining the aid process. Officials held teleconferences to coordinate state aid and clarify documentation requirements to prevent delays. Inspections of flooded areas were conducted by teams from the Larissa TAEFK and the General Secretariat for the Recovery of Natural Disaster Consequences.

By November 3, the General Directorate for the Recovery of the Effects of Natural Disasters reported that inspections of the municipality were complete. Of the 27 buildings assessed, 23 were classified as green and 4 as yellow, with no buildings receiving a red classification. 

Deputy Minister Katsafados held a teleconference with South Pelion Mayor Michalis Mitsikos and other officials to coordinate the technical steps required to collect, verify, and submit files for state assistance. Authorities reiterated that once all necessary documentation is fully submitted and verified, compensation payments can be processed within five working days. The government continues to evaluate requests to suspend tax and insurance obligations and to fund the restoration of local infrastructure.
