Planet Labs is expanding its footprint in the space sector through satellite-based Earth observation and data analytics for industries such as agriculture and environmental monitoring. The company recently announced a national satellite data program with the Government of Rwanda.

In a related development, Rocket Lab is increasing its role in satellite infrastructure. The company provides a suite of services including launch vehicles and spacecraft platforms. Notably, Viasat selected Rocket Lab to build a GEO satellite bus for the Protected Tactical SATCOM-Global program using the Lightning-GEO platform. Despite recent stock volatility and an adjusted loss of $0.08 per share in its latest earnings report, analysts maintain a consensus ‘Moderate Buy’ rating for the company.

Rocket Lab is currently navigating an $8 billion acquisition of Iridium, which has drawn formal opposition from SpaceX. SpaceX has requested that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) scrutinize the merger, citing disputes over radio spectrum usage. SpaceX further alleged in a letter to the FCC that Iridium has engaged in anticompetitive behavior by filing numerous petitions to block competitors from deploying next-generation satellite services.

Regarding internal leadership, Rocket Lab Chief Operations Officer Frank Klein recently completed a non-discretionary sale of 45,692 shares, valued at approximately $3.2 million, to satisfy tax withholding obligations. Klein retains direct ownership of 961,295 shares.
