The Spanish and Japanese women's national handball teams participated in a series of international friendly matches in Bolaños de Calatrava, Spain, to prepare for upcoming competitions. The first match was held at the Macarena Aguilar Municipal Pavilion, serving as a preparatory event for the Spanish team, ‘Las Guerreras’, ahead of the European Championship.

In the second friendly match, Spain secured a 30-26 victory over Japan. Although Japan mounted a comeback in the first half to lead 10-9, the teams were tied at 11-11 at halftime. Spain regained control in the second half, led by Danila So Delgado, who scored 13 goals, and Belén Rodríguez, who was named MVP.

Local officials, including the Mayor of Bolaños, Miguel Ángel Valverde, characterized the matches as a ‘historic sporting celebration’ for the province of Ciudad Real. These encounters served as critical preparation for the EHF EURO 2026, with expectations that future international tournaments will return to the region, including events in Puertollano.
