Sources: 2. Developments: 2. Spain has taken significant steps toward establishing leadership in international tourism data standards and digital autonomy. In October 2026, the International Organization for Standardization approved ISO 20525:2026, a new standard led by the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism through Segittur. This standard provides a common semantic language to improve interoperability and automatic data exchange between various digital tourism platforms. Building on these technical foundations, discussions at the Tourism Innovation Summit in Seville highlighted Spain’s potential to lead a sovereign European tourism technology ecosystem. The initiative aims to increase European digital autonomy and reduce reliance on non-EU providers, noting that three North American companies currently control approximately 70% of the tourism cloud market. Efforts such as the D3Hub Project, which is set to have a headquarters in Andalusia, seek to create a common European space for tourism data to drive decision-making through predictive intelligence and local data control. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-07: Spain explores leadership in European tourism technology sovereignty Spain aims to lead the creation of a sovereign European tourism technology ecosystem to reduce digital dependence on non-EU providers and gain control over critical tourism data. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/spain-explores-leadership-in-european-tourism-technology-sovereignty ### 2026-10-15: Spain leads new ISO standard for international tourism data exchange Spain has led the creation of ISO 20525:2026, a new international standard establishing a common semantic language for the digital exchange of tourism data between global destinations. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/spain-leads-new-iso-standard-for-international-tourism-data-exchange --- Cite as: Spain tourism data and technology initiatives.
