Spanish health authorities are launching initiatives to increase the involvement of patients, families, and social associations in the healthcare system.

In coordination with World Patient Safety Day, the Ministry of Health has held discussions regarding non-communicable diseases, emphasizing the role of patients and families as ‘agents of safety’ to detect risks and improve communication with medical professionals. 

Additionally, the Government of Castilla-La Mancha has introduced the ‘Juntos Somos Más’ program. This initiative seeks to transition from traditional aid models to a collaborative framework where patient associations and social entities participate in the co-creation of health strategies. Workshops held in Ciudad Real aim to utilize the expertise of these groups to identify healthcare needs and improve service delivery, with further sessions planned for Albacete and Talavera de la Reina.

Expanding on regional health management, the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha (Sescam) has approved a public employment offer (OPE) to bolster its workforce. By combining recruitment processes for 2025 and 2026, the regional government plans to fill approximately 3,400 positions. The 2026 portion includes 1,818 vacancies across medical, nursing, technical, and service staff, while introducing new categories such as dietitians/nutritionists and health documentation specialists. Competitive examinations are tentatively scheduled for July through September 2027.

Furthermore, the fourth SIAP Regional Conference is being held in Tomelloso. Under the theme ‘From Voice to Action’, the event gathers healthcare professionals, patients, and families to discuss humanizing care and the integration of artificial intelligence in health services.
