Spanish researchers are developing artificial intelligence tools to enhance medical diagnostics in dermatology and microbiology.

In dermatology, the University of Alicante and Sant Joan d’Alacant University Hospital have implemented MEL-IA, a mobile application and AI model designed to automate the classification of skin lesions to support early cancer detection. 

In microbiology, the University of Alcalá and the Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital have developed an AI system to identify Trichomonas vaginalis, the microorganism responsible for trichomoniasis. By analyzing microscopic images from standard Gram staining, the system achieved a 93% accuracy rate. This tool is intended to assist clinical decision-making, particularly in settings where molecular testing is not readily available.
