Spanish National Day commemorations included military ceremonies and traditional parades. In Arrecife, Lanzarote, the event featured the raising of the Spanish flag and was presided over by Colonel Carlos Jiménez Andrés, involving personnel from the Air and Space Force.

The national parade featured the Spanish Legion, which maintained its tradition of including a mascot. A two-and-a-half-year-old male goat named ‘Babieca’ made his debut as the mascot for the Tercio ‘Don Juan de Austria’ 3.º. Wearing a ceremonial mantle, the goat marched alongside Corporal Blázquez. Babieca, named after the legendary horse of El Cid, replaces the previous mascot, a ram named Baraka.
