In late October 2026, several Spanish municipalities received recognition for cultural and tourism achievements. The Spanish Royal Family, including King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, scheduled a visit to Llanes, Asturias, to honor the Santa Ana Fishermen’s Guild, which was named the ‘Pueblo Ejemplar’ (Exemplary Town) for 2026. The visit was planned to include demonstrations of traditional artisanal fishing and anchovy production.

Concurrently, during the XIV National Assembly of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain in Alcúdia, Mallorca, various towns were honored for tourism and digital engagement. Santillana del Mar and Liérganes in Cantabria received awards for being the most visited via app and web, respectively. Other distinctions included Albarracín as the Best Rated Village, Morella as the Most Hardworking Village, and Alcúdia as the Most International Village.
