The victory ends Sporting CP’s perfect start to the campaign. Sporting CP took an early lead through a penalty from Luis Suárez in the fifth minute. Suárez later scored again in the 89th minute, extending his scoring streak to nine consecutive matches. However, LASK Linz staged a comeback with goals from Christoph Lang in the 15th minute, followed by strikes from Sasa Kalajdzic in the 63rd minute and Krystof Danek in the 68th minute, both following counter-attacking opportunities. Despite LASK Linz having to substitute goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth due to injury, the Austrian side maintained dominance throughout much of the second half to secure the win. The match was marked by a significant injury to Jungwirth, who suffered a concussion following a collision with Luis Suárez. Following intervention from captain Sascha Horvath, the team doctor removed the disoriented Jungwirth from the pitch, allowing substitute Tobias Schützenauer to complete the match. This result marks a significant milestone for LASK Linz, representing their first away win in the competition's history and ending a nine-match European away losing streak. The win moves LASK Linz off the bottom of the standings. LASK is scheduled to host Slovan Bratislava at the Raiffeisen Arena on November 3. Sporting CP, who had won their opening two matches of the league phase, now sit in 12th position with six points. In related Champions League action, PSV Eindhoven earned their first win of the competition with a 1-0 away victory against FC Porto, courtesy of a 57th-minute goal by Guus Til. Japanese midfielder Kodai Sano played the full match for PSV, receiving positive reviews from Dutch media for his performance in midfield. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: LASK Linz secures historic Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon LASK Linz secured a historic 3-2 Champions League win against Sporting Lisbon, despite a concussion injury to goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/lask-linz-secures-historic-champions-league-victory-over-sporting-lisbon ### 2026-10-19: LASK Linz upsets Sporting CP 3-2 in Champions League LASK Linz secured a historic 3-2 comeback victory against Sporting CP in the Champions League, overcoming an early Luis Suárez brace to claim their first win and away victory in the competition. 43 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sporting-cp-prepares-to-host-lask-linz-in-champions-league ### 2026-09-29: Sporting CP announces Champions League ticket sales and women's match schedule Sporting CP has launched ticket sales for their Champions League match against Lens in France and announced a women's Europa Cup fixture against Brondby. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sporting-cp-announces-champions-league-ticket-sales-and-womens-match-schedule --- Cite as: LASK Linz upsets Sporting CP in Champions League.
