Sources: 11. Developments: 2. Sporting de Braga has experienced a period of poor performance in both domestic and European competitions. The club initially faced a postponed league match against Gil Vicente, which had been delayed from August due to a gastrointestinal outbreak within the squad. Following a 2-1 home defeat against Gil Vicente, Braga entered a four-game winless streak, including a 3-0 loss to Copenhagen in the UEFA Conference League. This period of instability led to the departure of manager Carlos Vicens, who is being replaced by Franclim Carvalho. Braga is now preparing to host Belgian side KAA Gent for their second matchday in the UEFA Conference League at the Estádio Municipal de Braga. Braga aims to leverage a strong home record, having won 13 of their last 15 matches at the stadium, to end a three-match losing streak across all competitions. Gent enters the fixture as the current leader of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League following a 1-0 victory against AGF, despite a recent unexpected exit from the Belgian Cup via a penalty shootout loss to amateur side Rochefort. Gent manager Rik de Mil identified the away match as the team’s “greatest challenge in the competition,” noting that Braga possesses “significant speed and footballing quality.” De Mil suggested that Braga may play with high intensity to impress Carvalho. To prepare for the new manager, Gent’s coaching staff has studied Botafogo, Carvalho’s former club. While Braga’s market value is estimated at 158 million euros—more than double Gent’s 77 million euros—Gent players have expressed confidence in maintaining their defensive form. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: SC Braga prepares to host KAA Gent in UEFA Conference League SC Braga hosts KAA Gent in the UEFA Conference League following Braga's recent managerial change and Gent's Belgian Cup exit. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sporting-de-braga-faces-gent-amid-ongoing-slump ### 2026-10-17: Sporting de Braga and Gil Vicente face delayed league match Sporting de Braga hosts Gil Vicente in a postponed second-round Portuguese I Liga match, delayed since August due to a gastrointestinal outbreak in the Braga squad. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sporting-de-braga-and-gil-vicente-face-delayed-league-match --- Cite as: Sporting de Braga performance slump and coaching change.
