Developments: 2. The municipality of Torre del Greco has launched several sports-related programs. The local government, led by Mayor Luigi Mennella, allocated 25,000 euros to fund the ‘Trofeo Città di Torre del Greco,’ a Dragon Boat event organized by the Asd Nautilus Group. This event is scheduled for October 27 to October 31 and is intended to promote maritime culture and youth engagement. The regatta will feature sports clubs from the Lazio, Campania, and Puglia regions. The program includes school activities and a closing ceremony to present awards such as the ‘Trofeo Città Torre del Greco,’ the ‘Davide Tizzano Trophy,’ and the ‘Sirene di Ulisse Trophy.’ The latter is specifically dedicated to female participants. The project also serves as a tribute to Olympic athlete Davide Tizzano. In addition to the Dragon Boat competition, the city has introduced the ‘Sport Illumina’ project. Funded by the Ministry for Sport and Youth through Sport e Salute, this initiative aims to repurpose urban spaces for basketball and parkour to foster community interaction. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: Torre del Greco to host Dragon Boat trophy event Torre del Greco will host the Trofeo Città Torre del Greco from October 27–31, featuring Dragon Boat races and activities for schools and sports clubs from central and southern Italy. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/torre-del-greco-to-host-dragon-boat-trophy-event ### 2026-10-19: Torre del Greco launches new sports initiatives and Dragon Boat trophy Torre del Greco is expanding local sports through a 25,000 euro Dragon Boat trophy and the launch of “Sport Illumina,” a project providing urban spaces for basketball and parkour. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/torre-del-greco-launches-new-sports-initiatives-and-dragon-boat-trophy --- Cite as: Sports initiatives in Torre del Greco.
