On September 29, 2026, Spotify experienced a widespread technical outage affecting users across multiple continents, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. The disruption impacted the mobile application, desktop version, and web player, preventing users from logging in, searching for content, or playing music and podcasts. Monitoring platform Downdetector recorded tens of thousands of reports, with significant spikes in the Americas and Europe. Common error messages reported by users included ‘Something went wrong’ and difficulties with server connections. While some users noted the web player remained partially accessible, many found the app non-functional. One report also noted a simultaneous disruption affecting the Claude AI model managed by Anthropic. Spotify acknowledged the problems via its @SpotifyStatus account on X, stating, ‘We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!’ and ‘We are aware of problems at the moment and are actively working on a fast solution.’ The company did not immediately disclose a specific technical cause for the collapse. By late afternoon, reports indicated that services were beginning to normalize and return to full functionality, though official confirmation of a complete resolution was still pending. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: Spotify experiences service disruption affecting search and playback Spotify faced a service outage on Tuesday, disrupting search functions and playback for many users.
