Sources: 3. Developments: 2. Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus has implemented significant changes to the touring squad for the end of year fixtures in the Northern Hemisphere. The squad rotation involves omitting several veteran players, including Eben Etzebeth, Cheslin Kolbe, Andre Esterhuizen, and Handre Pollard. This move is viewed by analysts as a strategic decision to rest senior players. To bolster the squad, Erasmus has included six uncapped players: Yaqeen Ahmed, Sebastian de Klerk, Luan Giliomee, Markus Muller, Riley Norton, and Emmanuel Tshituka. While these players are part of the touring group to experience the international environment, they were not included in the matchday 23 for the fixture against Italy. Injury concerns have also emerged, specifically regarding flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed, who is facing uncertainty due to a shoulder injury. Ahmed missed training in Turin and may need to return to South Africa for medical assessments. Additionally, veteran winger Makazole Mapimpi remains sidelined with a hamstring strain. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-03: Rassie Erasmus discusses uncapped Springboks players and injury concerns Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus explained the inclusion of six uncapped players in the touring squad, despite injury concerns for flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed, who may return home for medical scans. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/rassie-erasmus-discusses-uncapped-springboks-players-and-injury-concerns ### 2026-10-30: Rassie Erasmus rotates Springboks squad for upcoming tour Sir Steve Hansen suggests Rassie Erasmus is resting key Springboks players like Eben Etzebeth to prepare for the World Cup, while injuries continue to affect veteran winger Makazole Mapimpi. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/rassie-erasmus-rotates-springboks-squad-for-upcoming-tour --- Cite as: Springboks end of year touring squad developments.
