The judicial proceedings regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka are approaching a conclusion. A Colombo court has scheduled September 22, 2026, to deliver its verdict in a case involving approximately 24 defendants, including Naufer Maulavi. 

The trial addresses the coordinated suicide bombings led by Zahran Hashim that targeted churches and luxury hotels, resulting in at least 269 to 274 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The indictment is noted for its scale, featuring over 23,000 charges related to terrorism, conspiracy, and aiding suicide bombers. 

Throughout the proceedings, the court reviewed extensive evidence, including explosives, chemicals, firearms, and DNA reports. While the original indictment named 25 accused individuals, the number was reduced to 24 following the death of one defendant in prison custody. The defendants have previously pleaded not guilty and remain in remand custody.
