The Sri Lankan government has introduced the ‘Diviyata Saviyak’ housing assistance programme to support individuals transitioning out of institutional care. Managed by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the Department of Probation and Child Care Services, the initiative provides up to Rs. 2 million to help beneficiaries establish permanent housing through land purchase, new construction, or renovations.

Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj noted that the programme specifically targets vulnerable low-income families and young people reaching age 18 who lack family support, including orphans and abandoned children. The first phase of the programme is scheduled to launch on September 17 at the Presidential Secretariat, overseen by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
